All properties show the three closest train and tube stations in the area. We often get requests to change these or questions about how this distance is worked out.

How does it work?

The distance between a property and the nearest train or tube station is calculated from where the property location pin is on the map. The distance is taken as the crow flies from the property to the station on the map, not taking into consideration any different routes such as rivers or one-way systems that may mean it's a longer distance via car, for example. The same applies for other stations which can appear, such as tram stations.

A property listing will pull through up to three train stations that are 5 or fewer miles away from the listing location. If there's no stations within 5 miles, it will pull through one station up to 50 miles away.

Why isn't a specific train/tube station showing?

If the agent/vendor/consumer believes that the wrong station is showing on the property map, we can investigate this.

First, check that the location pin of the property is in the right place. If it isn't, move the pin and this will update the stations within the hour.

If it's not, explain how the distances work to the agent. If they believe a closer station is still missing, or a station is missing altogether CTC can investigate this. If they'd rather the tram stations appear over the train stations for example, this isn't something that can be changed. The information that will show on the listing will pick up only the nearest tram/tube/train stations dependent on distance, rather than type.

CTC would raise a ticket with the team via RM Helpdesk, including the property ID, the name of the station that isn't showing and the believed distance from the property - they can find this out using Google Maps. The SAs can refresh the location data to see if this fixes the station error.

Can this be changed?

We can't amend station data to show a preferred station on the property. If there is a problem and the wrong station is showing, the support analysts team can refresh this or add the station in if it is missing.
